Art for every day.
Brighten someone’s day!
To me, art is about emotion. It gives voice to the dreams we don’t yet know how to speak. It accompanies us in times of struggle, reminding us that we are not alone. It brings color and hope into the dark corners, and it captures the moments that are too glorious for words.
I grew up in Colorado and have called Boulder home since 2014. I have been fortunate my entire life to have many beautiful and inspiring locations just outside my door, and many more within close reach. These natural vistas are both a draw for the eye and an inspiration for the soul. Growing up in the arid beauty of the San Luis Valley, I acclimated to open space, rugged mountains and surrounding silence. Because there was little distraction, everything showed up as if under a magnifying glass. Intense examination of my world and myself, together with a sense of breathtaking loneliness, informed my creative process when I began writing songs as a teenager. My lyrics were deeply analytical and questioning. There was a strong need to understand myself and the world around me through music. As I move through my 30’s, I still write to understand: to put words to what I feel, and to help make sense of the world.
In contrast to my existential approach to songwritng, photography has always been simple for me. It’s an attraction to light, shadow, shape, and color. The feelings that I seek to capture through my images remain abstract, since I don’t have to put words to them, and my photographs tend to show the more optimistic side of my nature. I am fascinated by odd perspectives. I spend a lot of time lying on the ground (or ice, rocks…) to get my shots, and I like cutting most of an object out of the frame to highlight its details. The photos here were variously taken on a Nikon Z7, a Sony a7iii, a Galaxy S22, and the older ones on a Galaxy S7. I edit as I have to, but I prefer enhancement rather than transformation.
While both music and photography are strong creative passions, photography has been taking the stage in the last few years. Please check out the photo collection and the shop page, where my current collection of greeting cards and postcards are available for purchase! You can also find the cards locally at the Boulder Bookstore. If you would like to stay informed on new offerings or just want to reach out and say hello, you can get in touch via the connect page. Thank you for visiting!
Warmly,
